Mathematics

Eureka Math
Pacific 5th grade uses the Eureka (Great Minds) math curriculum and follows the Common Core Standards. Our daily math lessons use a CGI (Cognitively Guided Instruction) approach which focuses on each student's development of a deeper understanding of both how problems are solved and why various methods work.
Math Homework Help
  1. Students should review the Problem Set completed and checked in class. The homework problems are similar. Students should also review vocabulary notes taken in their working google document.
  2. The Eureka Homework Helper restates the main ideas of the lessons in a kid-friendly and parent-friendly way.  For modules 1-4, I have posted the homework helper for your convenience. The homework helper follows the 2015 edition of Eureka Math. In some cases, we will be using the 2013 edition in class. The homework helper guides students by thinking aloud the ways to solve problems. It is not an answer key. Therefore, the homework helper is a valuable resource for any edition we are using in class. To purchase the homework helper (Modules 1-6), please click on the link below.  https://eurekamath.teamcamelot.com/homework-helpers.php
  3. Click on the video links for each lesson (found on each Math Module's page).  These are 5-10 minute videos which re-teach the lesson.
Mathematical Practices
Throughout the year, students will be expected to demonstrate the following mathematical practices:
  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
  4. Model with mathematics.
  5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
  6. Attend to precision.
  7. Look for and make use of structure.
  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
Mathematical practices help to develop mathematicians that ask better questions and pick apart word problems in multiple ways.
