The physical and emotional safety of our students, families, and staff is our highest priority. The LA County Department of Health has directed that the MBUSD schools be closed due to a local outbreak of COVID-19. During this time of closure, it is important that my students’ and your child’s learning can continue. Below you will find how we will be operating during this time. Because we have never been through anything like this before, we will need to monitor and adjust the process as we go. Regular, two-way communication and productive feedback will help us navigate this together. Thank you for helping your child during this time, and thank you for your patience. Again, I know we are all going through this together, and learning as we do so. I also realize that each household may face their own challenges, and we will work through that too. During this time, to the greatest degree possible, we will all stay connected and learn together until our schools are reopened. Wishing us all health, happiness, and learning, Dr. Felix 3/12/2020 Changes to the 4th Grade Upcoming Events Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are canceling our trip to San Juan Capistrano. In the interests of social distancing and keeping our children (and their families) safe, it's a better idea to stay in school. The kids will certainly be disappointed, but we will plan a special activity for that day in lieu of their trip to San Juan Capistrano. Our Rancho Day will continue as planned, but with a minimal support team. Rather than using parents to volunteer at each station, we will be using our own campus Special Ed team to assist us. We are eliminating any food stations and focusing on leather tooling, candle making, piñatas, storytelling, and tin embossing. If you have signed up to assist, please note that we will no longer need your help. Our room moms will attend to assist us with cleanup and photos (that we will gladly share), but other than that we will make do with staff already on campus. Thank you in advance for your support of our efforts to keep our community safe. 2/28/2020 Rancho Day On March 27th all of 4th Grade will be participating in Rancho Days at Pacific School! It's a celebration of what the 4th graders have been learning. The 4th grade patios are set up full of activities that the kids will rotate through to help bring to life some of the things they've learned. This is something that we have done for years, and is a lot of fun for the kids. 1/23/2020 Math Workshop Click here to reserve your spot for the math workshop. 1/22/2020 Pantherthon Pantherthon will take place on Friday, January 31st from 11-12 for 4th graders. Music will begin the week of Monday, August 26th. Fourth grade students selected their music class at the end of last year, so they should divide between strings, band, and choir on the first music day. The following is some general information to pass along to the students: Strings: Students in strings will receive information about obtaining an instrument on the first day of class. It is not required for strings students to have an instrument for the first class, however, any students that have an instrument can bring them to school. Band: Students in band are expected to have their instrument, book, and pencil on the first day of music. Band students chose their instrument during the try-outs in third grade. If they can’t remember their choice, please email Mr. Nail. Choir: Students in choir are expected to have a folder and a pencil. They do not need to have these items on the first day. Please tell them to have it by the second week. New to the District: The 4th grade music classes are beginning level, so students that are new to the district can join any of the music classes. New students should observe the class that most interests them on the first day, and the music teacher will provide them with the information they need to get started. Parent questions about the music program? Email music teachers directly! Strings – Katie Cavallaro, kcavallaro@mbusd.org Band – Tim Nail, tnail@mbusd.org Vocal Music/Choir – Krista Giffin, kgiffin@mbusd.org 8/23/2019 In 4th grade, we have a weekly art classes added to our specials!
